Quick Hit: Ray Dalio on Inequality and Corporate Purpose

Says Dalio, “To prosper over time, every company must not only deliver financial purpose, but also how how it makes a positive contribution to society. Companies must benefit all of their stakeholders, including shareholders, employees, customers, and the communities in which they operate.” Emphasis ours. And often our emphasis.

Dalio and Larry Fink– two big capitalists who think a lot about how the capitalist system works — appear to agree that it’s not working very well for the majority of Americans. This article on the bottom 60% explains why. As for what to do about it, Dalio suggests a national commission to examine this issue and explore paths for what to do about it, and that clear metrics be created so we can measure improvements or deteriorations in these conditions.
