Trends for Home Design in 2019

It’s hard to believe we are already into the first few days of 2019. If you’re anything like me, you might be thinking of projects for your home. I am constantly trying to think of ways to spruce up my home and stay “trendy.” Below, are some top trends for 2019.

  1. Add natural elements – People are moving towards fresh, natural materials such as copper, concrete, and granite. These elements will help bring an organic and serene ambiance to any space while reflecting the world around your home.
  2. Turn towards floral patterns – This decorating trend has been around for a while. However, in 2019, we will see floral patterns in a new light. Decorators expect to find exaggerated proportions and contrasting colors used for this timeless decor pattern.
  3. Don’t be afraid of rich colors – Softer and muted colors can help spaces feel less overwhelming. Yet,  designers believe that 2019 will be a year where bolder colors are preferred. Richer hues throughout your home can make your more muted furnishings and decorative decor pop. Look out for dramatic reds, statement pinks, bold yellows and organic greens.
  4. Embrace geometric patterns – Incorporating geometric patterns is a hot trend, and can make a bold statement in any room. One way to incorporate a pattern into your home without making a huge commitment is by adding some geometric throws or pillows.
  5. Use matte finishes –  Compared to the dramatic effect that high-shine finishes conjure, matte finishes lend furnishings a more relaxed, however, futuristic appeal. For a similar effect, look for matte finished furnishings that boast unexpected hues and silhouettes.
  6. Look for concrete accents – Concrete provides a crisp, clean look and it isn’t just for countertops. Geometric concrete tiles will become increasingly popular and pair two of the hottest design trends into one stylish piece.
  7. Use velvet and linen for bedding –  Stonewashed linen comes in many patterns, colors, and looks great without being ironed or steamed. It’s low maintenance that still looks elegant and sophisticated. There is also an uprise in crinkled, crushed, and quilted velvet duvets. They tend to create a luxurious feel to the room.
  8. Go Green! Have you ever had a spot in your home where it just needs something? When in doubt,  get some indoor plants. It fills the space, provides some life, and adds some color. If you don’t have confidence in keeping plants alive – then invest in some high-quality artificial plants.
  9. Do you. Trends are inspiring and act as a guide when you are about to decorate or update a space. But, the most important design expert you can ever bring on board to a project is… you! Decorate your space with the things that are valuable to you, remind you of good times or are just beautiful to you. Trust yourself and enjoy the space you create!
