Weekend Happenings

The countdown is on for Santa’s big arrival. The weekends are getting busier. But if you have some free time – there are tons of things to do in the Capital District this weekend.

Melodies of Christmas
Proctor’s Theatre – Schenectady

Celebrating 39 years, CBS 6 Melodies of Christmas is the Capital Region’s premiere holiday extravaganza! Featuring the Empire State Youth Orchestra and Youth Chorale with special guests Grand Central Station, Professor Louie and the Crowmatix, The Northeast Ballet and Orlando’s School of Dance.

Net proceeds benefit the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at the Bernard and Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Medical Center.

Disney on Ice
Times Union Center

Mendelssohn Club Holiday Concert

The Mendelssohn Club of Albany performs “Holiday Connections” with conductor is Jeffrey Vredenburg, accompanist is Michael Clement and featuring the Tesago Elementary School Select Chorus from the Shenendehowa School District, as well as persussionists Cynthia Lee and Andrew Janack.

Ten Broeck Mansion Holiday House – Holiday Tea
Saturday, December 15 – 1-3 PM

Enjoy a festive holiday tea served in the formal dining room. Sit with friends in one of the lovely parlors. Many make this popular event a holiday tradition. Enjoy a visit from Sinterklaas as you walk through the beautifully decorated rooms. Pre-Paid reservations required.

The mansion is handicapped accessible for the first level only. Ample parking available.

Santa Speedo Sprint
Lark Street, Albany – 2 PM

The Albany Society for the Advancement of Philanthropy (ASAP) in association with Albany All-Stars Roller Derby is pleased to present the 13th Annual Santa Speedo Sprint!

The race will be held in conjunction with A Taste of Lark: Chili & Chowder Edition.

The Santa Speedo Sprint is an 800-meter run on Lark Street to raise money for the Albany Damien Center and the HIV/AIDS program at Albany Medical Center.

You do not have to wear a speedo – runners wear everything from speedos and bikinis to holiday-themed costumes to three-piece suits.

You can register online or in person. Register early to get a t-shirt. A minimum donation of $25 is asked, although higher donations are encouraged in the spirit of the event and the holidays.

Registration will take place between 11am and 1:45pm at The Lionheart and Oh Bar. The race will begin at 2pm at the Dunkin Donuts on Lark Street.

2018 President’s Holiday Concert at RPI
RPI – Troy NY – 3 PM
Free

The Rensselaer Orchestra and Concert Choir, under the direction of Nicholas DeMaison, will present a program of music reflecting on the miraculous happenstance that is our existence on Earth. The set of pieces includes divinely inspired music, music inspired by imaginary creatures, music inspired by childhood and family, and music inspired by nature.
